The BSc (Hons) Professional Aviation Pilot Practice

COVID 19: During the current pandemic some aspects of the timing and method of delivery of the programme below may be subject to changes. For example, theoretical face to face teaching may be replaced by online delivery if circumstances such as a second wave of infections require this and practical flying schedules may be suspended or delayed.  However, you will be kept fully informed of any such changes that may be necessary by the team at Tayside Aviation. Any such changes will not affect the outcome of the assessment processes.

When you have completed levels 4 and 5 and achieved your CPL, progression to the final modules (3 &4) at level 6 depends on you being employed as a commercial airline pilot or Flight Instructor. The current situation in aviation caused by the pandemic may mean that progression into employment at this stage may be delayed. If this is the case your programme will be interrupted (i.e. frozen) and restarted when you have secured employment.

This unique programme has been designed specifically to incorporate all of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulated pilot training, leading to the award of an Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) and a BSc (Hons) Degree in Professional Aviation Pilot Practice.

The programme provides the opportunity to gain a degree based on your technical and practical flying training, and early career practice as an airline pilot. We also train you to become a Flight Instructor as part of the programme and help you gain 1000+ hours as required by most airlines.

This hands-on programme is carried out with support from Instructors at Tayside Aviation’s facilities at Dundee Airport. This applies to both ground based and practical flight training with support available for theoretical knowledge exam preparation. All theoretical knowledge exams are taken at an examination centre approved by the CAA. Practical skill tests are also undertaken at Dundee Airport with an approved CAA examiner.

Throughout your programme you will also have access to all online resources at Middlesex University. In addition, the later stages of the programme are delivered by Middlesex University in partnership with an operator. Throughout the programme you will be supported by Module Tutors; these may be either based at Tayside Aviation or Middlesex University but both will work together to support your learning.

If you have little or no previous flying experience you may be interested in our Initial Flight Training course which includes direct entry to Degree on completion.
